I like to go to Battery Park in New Castle,
Delaware to relax looking out at the Delaware River watching the big
ships making their way and marveling at the seagulls flying around. I
sometimes attempt to develop mathematics examinations in this tranquil
atmosphere. Yet no matter how engrossed I am in the test development
process it appears my yellow note pad seems to pique the curiosity of
passersby. The stories the passerby people share usual are so
fascinating that I must complete the test work at home. One time a fellow walked up, then he called my first name. He had grown up with my younger brother. I could not put a name to his face; however, his comments confirmed that he grew up in the old South Bridge neighborhood in Wilmington, DE. This chap finally decided to sit down on the park bench with me to chat a spell. He shared that he was walking through the park in hopes of getting tired enough to go to sleep because insomnia has gripped him for five days. I did not want to alarm him. Nevertheless, it looked like he was working up on a heart attack. This chap recounted that during the 2010 heavy late winter snow storms; he thought he felt something constricting in his airway from some airborne pollutants. He went on saying the airway constriction never improved. I found myself wondering why this chap was not in some doctor's office or hospital emergency room. I shared that my restroom urge demand that I leave now. As he stood up and looked back in my direction, I could no longer contain my worry. I urged him to see a doctor as soon as possible because some very serious illnesses like a heart attack could be masked under his symptoms. He had a worried look on his face as he walked away. I only hope he seeks medical advice. I recalled we discussed Obamacare when he was all for it becoming the new paradigm. I worry that he does not have healthcare, so that explains his reluctance to seek medical treatment. What would you do in his situation? |
