The Tea Party socialism picture of President Obama appearing painted like the Joker is suggestive that it is an innocent presidential mocking. However, the Tea Party people are pulling the wool over our eyes as we relook at this picture by ignoring the word socialism and concentrating on the face while putting it in yesteryear’s white racist mindset context. Ferris State University Museum of Racist Memorabilia of the Jim Crow era gives a look at the mindset underpinning the Tea Party racist antics of using coded pictures to attempt to downplay that they are merely a modern day morphing of yesteryear’s Ku Klux Klan.
The seriousness of this Tea Party antic has a deeper meaning when we overlay it with H. H. Bower infamous, “Why I Am a Klansman.” Bower’s number three reason is, “Because Protestant Anglo-Saxon blood is the Heart and Soul of the Foundation of this Republic.” Bower offers a ninth reason that leaves no doubt of the role of the KKK. He writes, “Because the Ku Klux Klan is 100 per cent for White Supremacy, Restricted Immigration, Protestantism, and Americanism.” Clearly the Tea Party racists see President Obama as a mongrel breed that is an affront to their belief that God has ordained only pure whites to rule all of the people of color in the world. Are the token black Tea Party faces we see from time to time really modern day morphing of yesterday’s House Negroes (Uncle Tom) for they think they are eating the same food as the white master and living in the big house? Perhaps these black Tea Party sellouts might marvel at listening to the 1925 recording, “Why I Am a Klansman” instead of the Negro National Anthem of “Lift Every Voice and Sing” with a snippet of Black History.![]() |
