Will Amnesty Mean Freedom of Movement for Foreign Saboteurs?

When the World Trade Center Towers were blown up, I conclude that this was the first significant salvo on US soil in a global economic war – World War III. These towers symbolized global capitalism, so the terrorists apparently concluded that their demise would kindle a global economic meltdown. Their hope was that a global economic depression may create an atmosphere conducive to the rise of anti-capitalist and anti-Western culture despotic regimes.

Do the global terrorists define the winning of World War III as a reincarnation of the Great Depression of the Twentieth Century?

Although I have not heard of a gauge to tell who is winning the global war on terrorism, the global stock markets operating in record territory might suggest that the anti-capitalism zealots are losing. The apparent use of oil as a weapon to destroy capitalist-underpinned economies ignores the fact that products priced too high for a given market eventually become displaced with substitute products. There already may be permanent fissures in the global dependence on oil for the oil industry finds itself vilified in the minds of everyday American people who are looking for the advent of competitive products.

One also might expect rapidly developing economies such as China and India to develop alternate sources of energy to fuel their continued industrial growth, thereby forcing Western nations to adopt these new developments to remain competitive in the global marketplace. Furthermore, the global concern over the deleterious fallout from global warming might become the death knell of oil as the world feels compelled to move to cleaner sources of energy to fuel tomorrow’s growth.

The governmental and private sector officials who keep the global economy developing at record levels may be the unsung generals that we ought to praise in this global economic war. However, the global terrorist failed attempts to destroy America’s economic engine through acts of sabotage may also be souring American citizens on illegal immigrants. Surely sleeper cells of illegal alien saboteurs are probing America’s infrastructure looking for new beachheads to storm.

If we grant amnesty to 12 to 20 million illegal immigrants, are we setting the stage for the fall of capitalism since the saboteurs are now free to move throughout the nation and learn to know us as they know themselves? The great Chinese war philosopher Sun Tzu offers something for America’s leaders to ponder when dealing with the terrorist mindset. “As living spies we must recruit men who are intelligent but appear to be stupid; who seem to be dull but are strong in heart; men who are agile, vigorous, hardy, and brave; well-versed in lowly matters and able to endure hunger, cold, filth, and humiliation.”
