Can a Job Seeker Afford to Take that New Job?

I worry that all of the interest rate debate and fallout of the subprime debacle are not underpinned by discussions with John Q. Public. The financial gurus need to visit some unemployment offices to chat with people in crisis and they need to talk with the underemployed who can not make ends meet on their present salaries. These gurus might learn that the impact of overpriced energy is a household budget killer where once attractive jobs are now subsistence assignments. Job seekers must now do a cost versus benefit assessment before accepting a new job that is any significant commute from their home.

When are the financial leaders going to stop burying their heads in the sand and work on getting oil prices down to 30 dollars per barrel? Surely, we need a President with new ideas because all of the high experienced people may only hope to tweak the awful mishaps of the past. The American people ought to steer clear of Presidential candidates ballyhooing their great experience because the nation can not afford to have a new president who continues to do the same old things that got us into the current economic crisis and hope for a different outcome.

Thus, Senator Barack Obama may be the right person for the US Presidency for he is full of new ideas and not wedded to the mistakes of yesteryear. On the other hand, Senators Hillary Clinton and John Mc Cain may find their purported great experience as viewed on an industrial scale would be great for yesterday’s success but it is obsolete in today’s marketplace.
