Is President
Bush Really a Herbert Hoover Clone?

A holistic look at the symbolism in the 1992
General Election is very disquieting for the Bush Reelection Campaign
effort. President George H.
Bush now paints a picture of himself as a clone of Former President
Harry Truman. He is also
duping the media into focusing on how Truman overcame a loser image to
win.
It seemed strange to me that a Republican Presidential Candidate
would work so hard to be a clone of a late Democratic President.
I tried putting together reelection scenarios to understand this
skullduggery. This exercise
led me to conclude that masking the true depth of the failed economy is
Bush's illusionary feat of the 1992 election.
You might ask, what do I mean by the true depth?
The media bombards us daily with the extent of the present
economic recession. But no
one dares to use the ugly words "economic depression" to describe the
nation's plight.
Today there are scenes of huge lines spanning around city blocks
of unemployed people seeking a handful of jobs.
Middle managers are candidates for America's endangered species
protection. The reemergence of soup kitchens and homeless people
sleeping in cardboard boxes are American folklore.
This pervasive misery says that maybe we are fooling ourselves by
not comparing today's economic crisis with the Great Depression.
Our leadership veils our minds by giving figures in forms that
have little meaning to the common man.
One hears unemployment quoted in the percentage unemployed which
gives little information on
the raw numbers of people hurt.
I will make my case with a small exercise.
A comparison of the average number of people unemployed
throughout the Great Depression and the years 1990-1992 calls into
question the Truman clone model for Bush.
The years of the Great Depression (1929 - 1941) saw an average of
8,500,000 people out of work (counting people 14 years old and older).
Roughly an average of 8,500,000 people are out of work over the
last three years, with fourteen and fifteen year old people required to
be in school by law. This
says that the raw economic pain today is comparable to the Great
Depression.
These figures suggest that President Bush is really a clone of
President Herbert Hoover.
The Hoover "do nothing" style in the midst of an economic crisis fits
Bush like a tight glove.
Bush's ineptitude forces Governor Bill Clinton to adopt a
President Franklin Roosevelt type recovery scheme to reopen the
government to the poor, the down classed, and so on.
So far I think Clinton is offering hope of a better tomorrow
while Bush is hell-bent on spreading mistrust.
Perhaps President Bush did look into the mirror one morning and
he heard the late President Hoover saying, "There will be a landslide
victory in November. But I
hate to tell you that I see Clinton receiving it."
